U.S. Congressman. Born in Aiken, South Carolina, he graduated from Wood High School and became successful in agricultural pursuits. He was a delegate to the South Carolina State constitutional convention in 1868, a member of the South Carolina State House of Representatives, (1868-70) and the South Carolina State land commissioner, (1870-71). In 1871, he was elected as a Republican to the Forty-second Congress, serving until 1873. After his term, he was Charleston, South Carolina, local magistrate until his death form tuberculosis at age 31.
