OLD RESIDENT PASSED AWAY

Mrs. Joseph B. Allen Died at Her Home Wednesday September 14th

INTERMENT MADE IN WILDWOOD CEMETERY

Mrs. J. B. Allen, widow of the late Joseph B. Allen died at her home on Seventh Avenue, Wednesday night, September 14, 1927 at about eleven thirty, after a weeks illness of heart trouble, aged 72 years and 18 days.

Mrs. Allen was one of the oldest and best known of our old residents having lived in this community continuously since she was a child, and was a woman who commanded the respect of all who knew her. Always of the highest type of moral and spiritual character, she was prominent in every effort made for the advancement of her church or for the public good. She was an active and interested member in the M. E. Church from her girlhood, and was connected with the various societies of the church where she will be greatly missed. She was for many years a member of the W. C. T. U. and at the time of her death was Flower Mission Superintendent.

Mrs. Allen was a woman of strong convictions and to her if a thing was right she stood for it without compromise. It is easy to have the courage of your convictions if the issue is popular, but we have known this good woman to stand for what she believed to be right when she stood absolutely alone. We honor her as one of the best women Brockway has ever known.

Elizabeth Cecelia Hoy, second daughter of Albert L. and Catherine J. B. Hoy, was born in New Bethlehem, August 27, 1855. When she was a small girl the family came to Brockway where her father operated a cabinet shop and a grocery store. She was married to Joseph B. Allen about 1875. Their married life was spent happily in Brockway with the exception of a few years when Mr. Allen superintended the creamery at Hyde. Mr. Allen passed into the larger life about twelve years ago. She is survived by one foster son Charles Hunter Allen, a brother Edwin Fletcher Hoy of Salamanca, N. Y., a sister, Mrs. Laura Matson of West Virginia, and the following half brothers and sisters, Mrs. Zillah K. Jones, Pittsburgh; J. W. Hoy, DuBois; Mrs. Nora Maud Matson, Lorain, O; Ralph Hoy, Cumberland, Md; Mrs. Bertha Mohney and Clara Myrtle Hoy, Erie, Pa; Harry Hoy, Beaver Falls, Pa; and Emmet Hoy, DuBois.

The funeral was held from the M. E. Church, Sunday afternoon, Rev. D. Ralph Dunn having charge of the services and interment was made in Wildwood Cemetery.
