Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Jennings funeral home for Miss Grace Hood, who passed away late last Thursday afternoon.

The Rev. D.A. MacLean, pastor of the Presbyterian church, conducted the services.

Miss Gwen Snyder, accompanied by Miss Louise Boots, sang "In the Garden" and "Beyond the Sunset."

The pallbearers were: George Foxhoven, E.P. Tucker, Arthur Blackman, Berthel Turpin, C.L. Porter and L. E. Brandt. Interment took place in the Brethren cemetery.
Miss Grace Hood was born at Carroll, in Carroll county, Iowa, March 3, 1875, and passed to her heavenly reward June 29, 1950.
Grace was the oldest daughter of a family of eleven. John Henry Hood, her father, and his wife, Harriett, moved into Panora in 1892 [note: Harriet did not move with the family then, as she had died in Neola in 1891] and together with her family, Grace became a moving spirit in the early history and erection of the present Presbyterian church. She entered into membership of the Presbyterian family of God when she was eighteen and her life and service had been one continuous record of adherence to the highest ideals of her Christian faith.

The mother of the Hood family passed away 59 years ago, leaving the responsibility in the hands of the father and oldest daughter, Grace. Though but sixteen, Grace assumed this responsibility, forgetful of her own home independence, she devoted herself to her task as an elder sister.

Surviving Miss Grace are two sisters, Mrs. Jessie Montgomery of Panora, Mrs. B.K. Jarnagin of Lohrville, Iowa and a brother, Earl E. Hood of Des Moines.
Miss Hood was considerable of an artist, leaving behind her many beautiful paintings. She operated a millinery shop in Panora for 40 years. She assisted her artistic father in decorating the opera house that stood for a number of years in Panora. Many of the old-timers still remember its dignity and beauty at the hands of the artists. At the redecoration of the church, which she loved and was a member, it was the wish of Grace that she might herself renew the work of her late father, to bring back the artistic beauty of the past, but God willed she would join the eternal society of artists, to paint into nature the undreamed of beauty of the firmament.

"The love and devotion of hands that are still,
Will live in the hearts of the hands that still live,
And its fragrance and beauty, be our heritage."
