DECATUR — Gertrude I. Hetzler, 91, Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Decatur, died 10 a.m. Thursday (May 5, 2005) in Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.

Gertrude was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Decatur, the daughter of William and Edina Kay Ballanger Lanham . She and her husband owned and operated several businesses over the 82 years they lived in Decatur. Gert was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed playing bingo, but her greatest joy was to be with her family. She married Ernst D. Hetzler on June 24, 1931, in Decatur. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1996.
Surviving are her sons, Loren R. and wife Shirley (Pincher) Hetzler of Ocala, Fla.; Harold D. and wife Diane (Mauer) Hetzler of Dubuque; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her infant son, Donald; grandchild, Debbie Goss; and infant brother, William.
