Obituary PFC Joseph "Joe" Charles Filip, USMC, 20, of Windsor Locks, passed away unexpectedly in Japan surrounded by his loving parents. Joe was born on April 6, 1985 in Springfield, MA son of Paul Filip and Debora Bonsel. Joe was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School class of 2003. Upon graduating Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He performed his basic training in Parris Island. Upon graduating basic training he was stationed in Japan at Futenma Air Base with MALS-36 where he worked as an Aviation Supply Specialist. Joe was a loving young man, he was hardworking, and his smile could light up a room. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and loved the beaches in Cape Cod. He was also an extremely athletic person, he enjoyed football and soccer. He was known for his great love of life, always laughing and fun to be around. Joe will be sadly missed by his parents, Paul and Donna Filip of Windsor Locks and Debora and Melvin Bonsel of Clinton, NY; his grandparents, Edwin Filip of Windsor Locks, Charles and Marge Moe of AZ, Thomas and Joan Durkin of Windsor Locks, and Melvin and Sue Bonsel of FL; three brothers, Sean and Paul Filip of Windsor Locks, and Luke Thompson of Paris Hill, NY along with two sisters, Jade and Jorden Bonsel of Clinton, NY; six aunts, Kelly Williams of Clinton, NY, Kristin and Michael Thompkins of AZ, Deane Filip-Picard, Josephine Filip, and Terri and Bob Pilecki all of Windsor Locks and Esther and David Wargat of Colchester; three uncles: Michael and Brooke Bonsel of Westmoreland, NY, Steven and Michelle Moe of MO, and Thomas and Terry Durkin of Suffield; two very special friends, Craig Smith and Nathan Boatright along with numerous cousins and friends. Joe is preceded in death by his grandmother, Julianne Filip. Family and friends will gather at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring Street, Windsor Locks, on Friday, May 6, at 11:30 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Mary's Church in Windsor Locks at 1 p.m. Full military honors will be rendered following the funeral mass outside of the church. Cremation and interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Joe's family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, May 5, between the hours of 3-8 p.m. Memorial contributions in Joe's honor may be directed to the Joseph Charles Filip Scholarship Fund, envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.
