TAPS FOR VETERAN
John Trapp, Civil War Soldier, Died At His Home in North Carmi In Seventyninth Year.
The news of the death of John Trapp, who passed away Monday morning at his home on North Sixth Street, was received with sorrow by all, especially by our older residents who had enjoyed his acquaintance for so many years.
The death of Mr. Trapp was not unexpected. Three years ago he was stricken with paralysis and his health greatly impaired. Recently he suffered another stroke and in his weakened condition, coupled with his extreme age, he was unable to successfully combat his illness.
John Trapp was born in Grayville and has spent practically his entire life in Carmi. He was 78 years 5 months and 22 days of age.
When the call came for volunteers in the Civil War, Mr. Trapp took up his arms on the Union side. He saw considerable active service and served with credit both to himself and his country.
Upon his discharge he followed his profession, that of carpenter, until his advancing years necessitated his retirement.
He was of sociable disposition and was liked by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.
Four sons, William and John Trapp of Carmi, Edward and Michael Trapp of Indianapolis and two daughters, Mrs. Lucy Sons of Minok, Ill, and Mrs Mary Hargraves of Indianapolis, survive.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. H. L. Hayes of the Christian Church, were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon. Interment at Maple Ridge.
