Musician, Composer, Musical Producer. Born Salvador Camarata in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, he studied music at the famed Juilliard School in New York before embarking on a career as a Big Band trumpeter in the 1930s. He was the lead trumpeter and musical arranger for the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and arranged such hits as "Tangerine", "Green Eyes", and "Yours". He also worked as musical arranger for Benny Goodman, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday and many others. He later moved to England and in the late 1940s co-founded London Records, a label created to promote and distribute British music in the United States. The most successful act on the label was the Rolling Stones in the 1960's. Returning to the United States in the 1950s, he became musical conductor for several television shows including "The Vic Damone Show" and "The Alcoa Hour". In 1957 he released an album called "Tutti's Trumpets" which is considered a classic for trumpet compositions. He later teamed with Walt Disney in co-founding Disneyland Records which recorded Disney artists such as Annette Funicello and Hayley Mills. He arranged and produced all of the music recorded by Annette Funicello. In 1961 he received Grammy Nominations for "Babes In Toyland" and "The Parent Trap" both in the category for "Best Soundtrack Album or Recording of Original Cast from Motion Picture or Television". In 1962 he opened Sunset Sound and Sound Factory in Hollywood where artists from Miles Davis to the Rolling Stones and Van Halen have recorded. The studio is still in operation to this day. He was honored with the Disney Legends Award in 2003. He died at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California at the age of 91.
