Martha Jean (Marse) Hughes, of Lakewood, Ohio, and formerly of the Pittsburgh area, passed away Friday, December 24, 1999 in Lakewood Hospital at the age of 78.

Martha was born on December 4, 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA, the only child of Charles Edward Stark and Martha Marie Frederick. She was a graduate of Avalon High School and The College of Wooster. For the last seventeen years, Martha has lived in Lakewood, Ohio and was an active member of Lakewood Congregational Church, Hope Circle, College Club West, The Women's Board of Lakewood Hospital and the Women's Committee of Great Lakes Theater Festival.

She is survived by her children, Linda Hughes Hiser, Kenneth George Hughes and Jeffrey Charles Hughes; two grandsons, Aric Hughes Hiser and Garrett Bevin Hiser, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, January 6, 2000 in the chapel of Lakewood Congregational Church, 1375 West Clifton Blvd., Lakewood, OH at 7 p.m. An interment service was held in Allison Park, PA on December 30, 1999 in the Mausoleum Chapel of Allegheny County Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the Martha Stark Hughes Children's Theater Scholarship Fund, Beck Center for the Arts, 17801 Detroit Ave., Lakewood, OH 44107 or the Ohio Animal Health Fundation, 31698 Riverside Dr., Columbus, OH 43221.
