Kenneth Lynn Price

July 29, 1933 – July 22, 2023

Ken passed away surrounded by his family after a brief battle with pneumonia and other age-related illnesses. He was one week short of 90.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ethel, his wife Lillian and his oldest daughter Robin.

Ken was born in Goose Creek, Texas (now known as Baytown, Texas) in 1933. After the death of his father when Ken was 16 months old, he was raised by his mother and grandparents. At the age of 17, with his mother's permission, Ken joined the Navy. He was stationed in California, Florida, Tennessee, Alaska and finally Whitby Island, Washington. He flew in P2V-5F Neptunes and was at the Marshall Island in Kwajalein for the H-Bomb Test. He eventually got his pilot's license, but an eye stigmatism at the time prevented him from becoming a commercial pilot. While stationed in Washington, he met a young Canadian girl, Lillian Coutts, who became his wife in 1953. They settled in Hayward where Ken worked for United Airlines from 1955 to 1994.

Together they raised three girls, Robin, Gaylene and Jill. They lived in Hayward until Lillian's death in 2004. Ken was an active community member. He served on many committees and commissions while in Hayward, including the Hayward Planning Commission. In 2005, Ken moved to Dublin to be near his daughters, and lived there until his death in 2023.

Airplanes were a passion of Ken's. He could name any airplane flying across the sky. He could explain everything about the dihedrals, ailerons, turboprops, empennage and aerodynamics. He was very animated when talking about planes, and in his later years enjoyed flying remote-controlled airplanes and attending the Reno Air Races and other airshows in California. Ken traveled the world for his job, and after retirement, for the joy of traveling. For his 89th birthday, Ken took his first "Glider Ride" and was tickled to finally do something with an airplane he had never done before.

When he no longer was driving a car, he "graduated" to mobility scooters and owned four at the time of his death, each one serving its unique purpose. Most days, he could be seen riding around Dublin just enjoying being outdoors.

He loved cruising to places all over the world and took over 20 cruises from 2006 to 2023. His final cruise to Alaska was in May, where he enjoyed visiting Prince Rupert, Canada for the very first time.

Ken is survived by his daughters Gaylene Burkett (Tom) and Jill Stangeland (Layne), his seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Waits, Christina Medeiros, MaryAnne Fall, Julie Anne Pearson, Kyle Fall, Victoria Wilson and Katie Taugher, and eight great-grandchildren.

A private graveside service was held in September. A celebration of life will be held in January.
