The daughter of William Jacob (Buff) Vreeken and Betty Jane Barley, she was born Feb. 18, 1946, in Oakland.
Cheryl was a marriage family therapist with Morongo Basin Mental Health for 16 years. Her first job was a switchboard operator at the phone company in Yucca Valley.
Cheryl became a member of the Latter-Day Saints church in her early 20s. She served in numerous auxiliaries, such as Relief Society Young Women's. She worked as a team coordinator for Project COPE with San Bernardino County, helping residents with post-traumatic stress disorder after the massive earthquake in 1994.
Cheryl was an avid watercolor artist. In the '90s she had numerous shows at the 29 Palms Art Gallery, including a three-generation art show with her father, Buff Vreeken, and son, Matt French.
Cheryl loved science, archeology, specifically Egyptology, and paleo explorations.
She loved to travel to experience different cultures — including living in Morocco, Africa, for two years.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents, Buff and Betty Vreeken, and her son-in-law, Christopher J. Call.
She is survived by son and daughter-in-law Will and Kia French of Springville, Utah, son and daughter-in-law Matt and Carrie French of Salem, Ore., son Adrian French and Matt Adair of Twentynine Palms, son-in-law and daughter Tyler and Wendy Kechely of Bozeman, Mont., and three grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Twentynine Palms.
Cheryl will be cremated and at a private family service, she will be laid to rest with her mother at the Twentynine Palms Cemetery.
