Ole Anderson, Wallingford Pioneer, Dies
Ole O. Anderson, 82, retired Wallingford banker, first Wallingford mayor, and native of Norway, died yesterday at 5:30 p.m. at Holy Family hospital following a heart attack suffered Saturday at 2 a.m.

He had been in good health all of his life, never having been seriously ill up to the time of his heart attack.

He was one of the founders of the former Farmers Savings bank in Wallingford and a longtime cashier of the ban. Later he worked for a time in Estherville's former Iowa Savings bank. A bachelor, he lived alone.

He was born July 30, 1868, in Norway, son of Ole and Haldis Paulson Anderson. He came to the United States with his parents in July, 1871, and the family came right to High Lake township where he was educated in the rural schools of the county.

After completing his elementary education, he went three years to a college at Red Wing, Minn., and also took a commercial course in Decorah.

Following the completion of his education he taught school for a short time, later farmed eight years with his father on the home farm in High Lake township.

He was instrumental in helping organize the former Farmers Savings bank in Wallingford, and after incorporation of the bank in June, 1902, was appointed cashier. He served in that capacity for 20 years.

He was the first mayor of Wallingford after its incorporation in 1913 and was a longtime member of Wallingford Lutheran church.

Survivors include a brother, P.S. Peterson of Mobridge, S.D., 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Services will be held Thursday at 1:15 p.m. at Sandin Funeral home and at 2 p.m. at Wallingford Lutheran church with the Rev. C.B. Gunderson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery in Wallingford.

Friends who wish to pay their last respects may call at the Sandin funeral home anytime Wednesday and Thursday up to time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 25, 1950)
