Erastus K. Parmalee
Erastus K. Parmalee served in Co. D, 65th Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. He was a resident of Thornapple, Michigan, when he enlisted on March 15, 1862. He was mustered out with his company on July 13, 1865, at Greensboro, North Carolina.
The 65th Illinois Infantry was organized at Camp Douglas near Chicago, Illinois. The regiment was mustered out on July 13, 1865, at Greensboro, North Carolina, and discharged at Chicago, Illinois, on July 26, 1865.
Erastus K. Parmalee was born in 1843 in Clayton, Michigan, the son of Erastus and Wealthy Parmalee.
In 1870, Erastus and his wife, Mary (Lafferty), lived in Ransom, Hillsdale County, Michigan, where Erastus worked in a sawmill. They had one son, Alfred L. Parmalee.
Alfred L. Parmalee was born on February 16, 1869, at Ransom, Hillsdale County, Michigan. He married Frances L. Davis on June 30, 1915, at Lambertville in Monroe County, Michigan. Frances was born about 1892 in Michigan to Myrton A. and Kate A. (Wilbur) Davis.
Sometime before 1878 Erastus and his (second) wife, Ellen D. Parmalee, settled in Orange Township, Kalkaska County, Michigan. In 1883, Mr. Parmalee was a Justice of the Peace in Kalkaska County.
Erastus and Ellen Parmalee had three children: Olin E., Ruth M. , and Alice L. Parmalee.
Olin E. Parmalee was born on November 19, 1873, in Jefferson, Hillsdale County, Michigan. Olin married Edith Belle Pedin on November 11, 1905, at Temperance in Monroe County, Michigan. Edith was born about 1878 in Michigan, the daughter of Amos B. King.
Ruth M. Parmalee was born on June 13, 1878, in Kalkaska County.
Alice L. Parmalee was born on August 7, 1882, in Orange Township, Kalkaska County.
Civil War veteran Erastus K. Parmalee died on June 20, 1885, in Orange Township, Kalkaska County. He is buried in the Orange Township Cemetery in Kalkaska County, Michigan. A Civil War military headstone and a G.A.R. flag holder mark Mr. Parmalee's grave.
In 1900, Mrs. Ellen Parmalee lived in Petersburg, Monroe County, Michigan, with her daughters, Ruth and Alice.
