Theresa Marie(Eichenberger)Young, 89, of Gordon passed away April 23, 2013 at Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs.
She was born to Paul and Lydia(Harris)Eichenberger, March 23, 1924, at their home 20 miles northwest of Gordon. She was the oldest of seven children. Theresa was named after her grandmother, since she was the first grandchild and the first girl on the Harris side. She attended elementary school through the ninth grade at White Lodge School, and then attended Gordon High School, graduating in 1942. Theresa taught for two years at District 49 and Mt. Hope School before going to Oregon. The family moved to Sheridan, Oregon in November 1944 and then moved back to Gordon in January 1945, living four miles north of Gordon. On December 20, 1945, Theresa married Wilbur E. Young at the Lutheran parsonage in Gordon by Reverend H.M. Roth. Seven children were born to this union. They made their home north of town where they farmed, ranched and raised their children. Theresa went to work after the children were grown up. She worked at J.C. Penney's from 1969 to 1986, then she worked at Alco for two years until she retired. Theresa was confirmed and baptized in the Christian faith at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Gordon. She was a member of the Lutheran Women and helped out at the church. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Community where Wilbur and Theresa would go and play cards and have fun getting together with the neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Young, infant son Robert Paul, her father and mother, one sister, infant grandson Aaron Colella and granddaughter Nikki Gonzalez. Survivors include her children; Roger and Frances (Gonzalez) Young of Gordon, Evelyn (Young) and John Thornbrugh of Shreveport, LA, Marilyn (Young) Bishop of Gordon, James Young of Gordon, Margaret (Young) and Doug Hinkley of Chadron and Douglas Young of Buffalo, SD, ten grandchildren; Tammy, Stacy, John Jr., Dan, Steve, George Jr., Natasha, Phillip, Katie and Sabrina, great grandchildren, her three sisters, Dorothy, Clara, Alice, two brothers, Albert and Russell, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Friday, April 26, 2013, 10:00am, at Grace Lutheran Church, in Gordon with Reverend Travis Sherman officiating. Burial was held in the Gordon Cemetery.
