Velma, along with her husband and children, moved from Marion County, AL to Moline, IL in the early 1950's. She began working at the former Lutheran Hospital as a cook in 1953. Velma retired in 1968. She was a member of the Moline Gospel Temple and the Lutheran Hospital Retirees Club.
Survivors include daughters, Wynell, Brenda, Betty, Robbie and sons Bill, Bob, and Fred, daughter-in-law Lois, son-in-law Tom; 29 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eulene Hubbard, Fayette, AL.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ezell Hammock, on Oct 20, 1998, a son Louis T., on Jan 21, 1993, four sisters and two brothers.
