Velma L. White Franks was born the daughter of James Monroe and Martha J. Blankenship White. Velma was residing in Winfield, AL when she married Lem Franks Oct. 19, 1925, in Hamilton, Marion County, AL. He died Feb. 25, 1981.
Velma, along with her husband and children, moved from Marion County, AL to Moline, IL in the early 1950's. She began working at the former Lutheran Hospital as a cook in 1953. Velma retired in 1968. She was a member of the Moline Gospel Temple and the Lutheran Hospital Retirees Club.
Survivors include daughters, Wynell, Brenda, Betty, Robbie and sons Bill, Bob, and Fred, daughter-in-law Lois, son-in-law Tom; 29 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eulene Hubbard, Fayette, AL.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ezell Hammock, on Oct 20, 1998, a son Louis T., on Jan 21, 1993, four sisters and two brothers.
