George Lane

The son of Abraham & Jane Lane, in 1860, he was a farmer living in Antrim Township, Franklin County. He stood 5' 5" tall and had black hair, black eyes, and a black complexion.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at Camp William Penn, Philadelphia, October 5, 1863, and mustered into federal service there October 7 as a private with Co. E, 8th U.S. Colored Troops. He was given a twenty-day furlough February 15, 1865, promoted to corporal March 1, 1865, and to sergeant June 30, 1865, and honorably discharged with his company November 10, 1865, at Brownsville, Texas.

He married Charlotte E. unk, and, in 1870, lived in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County.
