'The Caregiver'

Helen Eleanor (Illnora) was born in Barnesville, Minnesota, November 16, 1924. She was the 9th child of 12, born to her parents Henry Alfred and Johanna Marie (Jenny) Anderson.

Life on the Anderson farm was full and busy, all sharing in the work, as well as the family and community activities. Helen took on the role as caregiver early-on sharing in the care of siblings while they lived in town during their high school years. After graduating from high school in 1943, she started her nursing education at the Grand Forks Deaconess Hospital, where she also attended the University of North Dakota. She graduated in 1946 and began her career as a Registered Nurse in Everett, Washington. It was in Everett that she met her husband, Bill Lyells. The attraction was immediate and the love was to last a lifetime. They were married June 19th, 1948 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Denver. Soon after, Bill was recalled to service in the Navy during the Korean War. Helen and their infant son David, temporarily moved back to Washington State to live with her sister Hilda Jane and her family. She worked as a nurse until Bill was discharged and they could return to Denver. They lived in Denver until 1958 when they bought a home in Arvada. Helen worked briefly at Children's Hospital in Denver before she made the decision to stay at home and focus on the care giving of David and Michelle, as well as other family obligations. She renewed her nursing license in 1968 and returned to nursing at Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. She retired from Lutheran Hospital after 15 years of service. Her role as Grandmother to Reed, Casey, Travis, Chris, Hanna, Katie and Great-grandmother to Camden and Hadley made her the ultimate caregiver. The cookie jar was always within a child's reach at Grandpa and Grandma's house. Helen's God-given role as Caregiver was demonstrated with the unconditional love and care of her patients, friends and family.

The 'Caregiver' will be deeply missed.
