Melvin Caldwell, Sr., 72, of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.

He was born January 4, 1941, in Chicago, Ill. He was a very active and loyal member of Allen Temple A.M.E. Church in Pine Bluff, Ark., where he served as Vice-Chair of the Trustee Board and a member of the Mass Choir and Sons of Allen. He served as an educator in both the Gould and Pine Bluff School Districts. He was the owner/operator of Caldwell's Lakeside Exxon for 27 years.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Mable Ewans Prysock and James K. Caldwell; brother, Morris "Sonny" Prysock; and sisters, Phyllis Cason, Nora Jane Bryant; and granddaughter, Andrea Martin.

He is survived by his wife, Mary V. Caldwell of Pine Bluff, Ark.; two sons, Melvin (Angie) Caldwell, Jr., of Bryant, Ark., Morris (Kanisher) Caldwell of Pine Bluff, Ark.; two daughters, Miranda Caldwell Johnson of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Monica Martin of Little Rock, Ark.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitation/family hour will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. at Allen Temple A.M.E. Church, 1125 Virginia Street in Pine Bluff, Ark. The funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 2:30 p.m. at St. John A.M.E. Church 1117 West Pullen Street in Pine Bluff, Ark., with the Rev. Randolph W. Martin, Sr., eulogist. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Section of Graceland Cemetery by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff.
