Mrs. Abernathy, daughter of Zelman and Mary E. Spivey Byer, was born on June 6, 1932 in Catron, Missouri.
She retired from AT & T as Customer Service Manager and was a member of the Campbell Church of Christ.
In 1948 in Campbell, Missouri, she was united in marriage to Dixon E. Smart. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1961. She later married Billy Mac Abernathy, on August 3, 1963 in Campbell, Missouri. He preceded her in death on September 28, 2003.
Her survives include, one son, Dixon Smart and wife, Nancy of Littleton, CO; one daughter, Kathy Spittler and husband, Gerald of Carbondale, IL; adopted son, Jon Abernathy of Campbell; Grandchildren, Mindy Quiachon and husband, Vince of Westminster, CO, Matthew Smart of St. Paul, MN, Natalia Smart of Boulder, CO, David Spittler of Centennial, CO, Rachel Spittler of Centennial, CO; step-grandson, Scott Spittler of Centennial, CO; great-grandsons, Alex and Zach Quiachon of Westminster, CO; step-great-granddaughter, Monique Spittler of Centennial, CO; sisters, twin, Cora Gunter of Campbell; Ellen Jane Jones of Littler Rock, AR, Rose Anna Parrent of Alton, IL, Ruby Rhodes and husband, Donald of Brighton, IL, and Ruth Watson of Clio, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Noelle Spittle; and several siblings who died in childhood.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell, Missouri; with services beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home chapel with Mr. Jacob Cecil and Mr. Terry Mabrey officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell.
