Ivan Daniel Cole passed away quietly in his home in Charlotte, N.C., May 10, 2010. He was 91-years-old. The World War II Veteran was born in Republic, Ohio, August 26, 1918. He fought under General Patton in the Battle of the Bulge, and remained very active in the Veterans Memorial Squad. One of his proudest volunteer achievements was when he chaired the Hancock County Veterans Associations Battle of the Bulge reunion. He also enjoyed giving talks to elementary school students about WW ll, including his granddaughters classes in Scottsdale, AZ. Forever the enthusiastic volunteer, he was an Ambassador in the Findlay Chamber of Commerce, active member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church of Findlay, (where he married Findlay native, Maxine Buffington 65 years ago) and a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Temple. Over the years, Mr. Cole made hundreds of trips taking burn victimsto the Shrine Hospital in Toledo, OH. Except for his service in WWII, and his three final years in Charlotte, Mr. Cole lived his entire life in Republic and Findlay, OH. He earned his Associates Arts Degree in Business from Tiffin College (now University of Tiffin.) He spent his entire professional career of 44 years in various management positions at Marathon Oil Company, also in Findlay. Mr. Cole is survived by his wife, Maxine Louise Buffington Cole of Charlotte, NC., son Randall Ivan Cole of McLean, VA., son Douglas Alan Cole of Paradise Valley, AZ., daughter, Julie Ann Cole of Charlotte, NC., daughter-in-law Susie Cole of Paradise Valley, AZ., four grandchildren, two great granddaughters, brother Loyal Cole of Republic, Oh., and several nieces and nephews in the Tiffin and Republic, Oh., areas. He is preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Cora Cole, brothers, Carroll, and Ralph, all of Republic.
