Daniel J. Denhart was born in Pennsylvania January 22, 1852. His family moved to Illinois in 1855 where they pioneered. In 1876 he married Christies McHoes and two years later they moved to Washington Territory. After two years they returned to Illinois to care for his mother who was ill, staying there until 1884. They them moved to Pipestone County, Minnesota, joining four of his brothers there and remained there for 25 years on his homestead. After retiring from active work, the family moved to San Jose where he lived until his death. He died November 21, 1925, following a year's illness.

He was a member of the Garden City Quoit Club, secretary and treasurer of the Minnesota Association, director of the Florence Crittenden Home, and director of the YMCA for eight years. He was always very active in church, community, and social welfare work. As a 30 year member of the Odd Fellows, he was laid to rest with the Odd Fellows ritual at Oak Hill Cemetery. He was a member of the Centella Methodist Church while living in San Jose.

He left a widow and seven children.
