Michael Everley Conway was born to famed film director Hugh Ryan (Jack) Conway (1886-1952) and his wife, Virginia Bushman Conway (1906-2001) on February 22, 1928, in Los Angeles, California. He grew up on his parents' 125-acre ranch in the Pacific Palisades called All Hallows Farm. His maternal grandfather was the famed lover of the silent screen, Francis X. Bushman (1883-1966). Despite these solid ties to the film industry, he elected to pursue a career in business. He attended Pomona College and the Stanford University Business School and later worked as a contract administrator for an airplane manufacturer before his retirement. His younger brother, Patrick (Pat) Douglas Conway (1931-1981), did pursue an acting career and achieved some prominence in movies and television of the 1950s and 1960s but died in 1981 at the age of 50. The brothers also had a half-sister, Rosemary, from their father's first marriage.

Michael was active in the Big Brother organization for over 40 years and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Westminster's choir for over 10 years. In 2008, he served as Grand Marshal of the Strawberry Festival Parade in Garden Grove, California, honoring his famous grandfather who was the Grand Marshal of the first parade 50 years earlier. He and his wife raised two sons. He died in Huntington Beach, Orange, California, on December 26, 2010, at the age of 82.
