He was born in Beekmantown on March 26, 1914, the son of Edwin and Frances (Cory) Hewitt.
Mr. Hewitt, a veteran of World War II, was formerly employed at the Plattsburgh Air Force Base.
Survivors include two sons, Edwin of Dannemora, and Ashley Jr. of Syracuse; five daughters, Mrs. John (Margie) Orlowski of N.J., Mrs. Reginald (Carol) Vasser of West Chazy, Lynn Hewitt Wood of Fla., Candy Rugar of Plattsburgh, and Penny Hewitt of Plattsburgh; three sisters, Mrs. Clifford (Margorie) Burleigh of Fla., Mrs. Arthur (Ella) Myette of Plattsburgh, and Mrs. James (Katherine) Brown of Fla.; and several grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O'Neill-Redden-Drown Funeral Home in Plattsburgh.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at the Weslyan Church on Elizabeth Street.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Plattsburgh.
