Edward F. Dithmar was an attorney, and a politician from Wisconsin. He was born in Baraboo, Sauk County, Wisconsin and was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1894. He started as a court clerk in Sauk County after graduation, and continued there until 1900 when he accepted a position with a Milwaukee law office. He married Emily W. Upham in 1910. In 1915 he became the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin serving under Governor Emanuel L. Philipp. He held that position until 1921. After leaving office, he had two unsuccessful political campaigns. The first was in 1925 when he ran for United States Senate, and the second was in 1928 when he ran for Governor of Wisconsin.
