Merkel, Tx. - Bertha Hunter, 94, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at Hendrick Medical Center. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at the Anson Church of Christ with Doug Johnson, Joe Hailey and Casey Crosby officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home.
Born October 23, 1918 in Nugent, Bertha was a daughter of the late Willie Henry and Mary Nancy (Franklin) Daughtry. She graduated from Hawley High School in 1937 and attended Abilene Christian College. Bertha married Ab Hunter June 1, 1939 in Hawley. Bertha was a homemaker, a member of the Church of Christ and a member of the EEA.
Bertha was preceded in death by her son (Tommy Hunter), three sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Ab Hunter of Merkel; one son, Jimmy Hunter (and wife, Judy) of El Campo; three daughters, Nancy Vancil (and husband, Kenneth) of Garland, Dolores Adair (and husband, Don) of Merkel and Margaret Johnson (and husband, Dwaine); one sister, Azalea Kimball of Oregon; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren.
Family visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at Adams-Graham Funeral Home in Anson.
