Floyd Olen Payne, the son of Orval and Eula Mae (Brannum) Payne, was born on the family farm east of Sparta, MO, April 27, 1928. He joined his heavenly Father, and the love of his life, Betty, on April 22, 2013 at the age of 84 years, 11 months, and 22 days.
Floyd attended Sparta School and resided in Sparta his entire life, after he proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army Infantry. Following the service to his country Floyd remained very patriotic and loyal to fellow servicmen. He was a generous supporter of Disabled Veterans and Wounded Warriors of America. He took great pride in his country and its founding values.
Floyd was united in marriage to Betty Luvon Gideon on September 22, 1954. To this union two children were born, a daughter Deborah Pauline, and a son David Wayne.
Floyd was a devoted Christian and a member of Oldfield Full Gospel Church, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed working in his yard, with many varieties of flowers. His specialty was his roses. He was a very devoted and wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Everyone who knew him will miss his huge smile and gentle nature. "To know him was to love him". He will be greatly missed by everyone he touched in his life.
Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, three brothers, Lloyd, Leonard and Glen Payne, and a sister and brother-in-law, Joretta and Junior Gray. Suriviors include: a daughter Deborah Frost and husband Spurgeon, and a son David Payne, all of Sparta; grandchildren, Joey Day of Ozark, Jill Jackson and friend Joe Gault, Julie Henry and husband Jeff, all of Sparta, Rusty and Alison Payne of Ozark; great-grandchildren, Kelby Humble and Karli Henry; a brother Don Payne of Sparta; sisters-in-law, Joan Payne and Janet Payne; a host of nieces and nephews, family members, and many friends.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Saturaday, April 27, in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with Pastor Bally Johnson officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Sparta Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM Saturday until funeral time.
