Charles George Rooney, Sr., 73, of Port Monmouth, died Friday, February 17, 2012 in Holmdel. He was born in North Arlington and lived in Matawan before moving to Port Monmouth 52 years ago. Charles worked as a licensed plumber for over 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Middletown Elks, a member of the Raccoons and a member of Goodfellows.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Lorraine Rooney, son and daughter-in-law Charles and Donna Rooney, Jr. of Cliffwood Beach; son Michael Rooney of Port Monmouth; son, Daniel Rooney; daughter and son-in-law, Sharyl and Bruce Allen of Port Monmouth; brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Elsie Rooney of Matawan; brother and sister-in-law; Robert and Louise Rooney of Brick; sister and borther-in-law, Midge and Thomas Thorton of Tuckerton,; sister and brother-in-law; Phyllis and Sonny Conover of Absecon; Grandchildren; Charles Rooney III, Christopher Rooney, Amanda Rooney, Andrew Allen, Kaitlyn Allen, Michael Allen, Mary Allen, and Tristan Rooney; Great-Grandchild, Ethan McKenna.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, James, Sr. and Louise Rooney, his brother James Rooney, and his sisters Mary Kroll and Patricia Gladney.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 21, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday at a time to be announced at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
