Agnes ("May") Mary Cronin was born in 1898 in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland. She trained as a doctor and was the wife of novelist A.J. (Archibald Joseph) Cronin. They had three sons. She died in Pierrefonds, Quebec, Canada in 1981 and is buried next to her husband at the Cimetière de Vassin in La Tour de Peilz, Vaud, Switzerland.
The cremation was done at Mount Royal Cemetery Crematorium.
