Funeral services for Elma Kaye Gabbert of Winona will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday,
April 23, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in the Oakwood
Cemetery in Winona. Rev. T. R. Darsey and Rev. John L. Walker will officiate the
services.
Visitation will be Tuesday, from noon until service time, at Oliver Funeral Home.
Miss Gabbert died of cardiorespiratory failure due to complications of multiple
sclerosis at Winona Manor in Winona on Saturday, April 20. She was 71 years old.
Miss Gabbert was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ruby Cobb Garrett. She was a
registered nurse, having worked at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis and with
the Mississippi State Department of Health, from which she retired in July 1978. Miss
Gabbert was recognized by the Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis
Society as the Multiple Sclerosis Patient of the Year in 1981. She was a member of
First Baptist Church in Winona. In addition to her parents, Miss Gabbert was
preceded in death by three sisters.
Survivers include her nieces, Elaine Williams, Jean Scott, and Tommye Sue Hardin
(Barry); nephew, William Anderson; great-nieces, Kali Dunlap and Brittany Hardin; her
lifelong friend and caregiver, Mary Frances Williams; and a host of friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
