Nina Elizabeth Walker "Libby" Garrett, age 93, died Friday, April 19, 2013 at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Augusta, GA. She was born December 22, 1919 in Birmingham, AL, the daughter of the late Charles Ira Walker and Willie Kate Bridges Walker. She graduated from Phillips High School in Birmingham, AL. On September 29, 1941, she married Fred Monroe Garrett. She served her country in the United States Army as a WAC (Women's Army Corps). After serving in the military, they lived in Tucker, GA, where they raised their children. She was very active in all aspects of their schooling, including being a member of the PTA and the first secretary of the Tucker Little League. During her career, she worked for Superior Tank Corporation as an executive secretary, was a teller for Trust Company of Georgia and retired as executive secretary from J. M. Tull Metals. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tucker and a member of the Pilot Club. Besides being a wife, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting, a skill that she imparted to her daughter, and catering. Her favorite pastimes were shopping, fine dining, watching the Atlanta Braves and college football. "ROLL TIDE", "WAR EAGLE" and "GO DAWGS"

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Monroe Garrett on June 29, 1994. She is survived by a daughter, Cathy Garrett Allan of Greensboro, GA; a son Walker Garrett (Charlene) of Sanford, FL; two grandsons, James Scott Wilson (Jenifer) and Brad Garrett (Erin); five great grandchildren, Dylan Joseph Wilson, Kaci "Elizabeth" Wilson, Haley, Tyler and Avery Garrett; and dear friends and caretakers, Laura Johnson and Rhonda Vann.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Greensboro, Georgia at McCommons Chapel with Rev. John Pike officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. at Floral Hills Memory Garden, 3000 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, GA 30084. The family requests that any memorials be made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061-0515. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
