Mannering Brookshire, was a son of James Brookshire and Martha Brookshire 'nee Wright, and was born about 1797 in South Carolina.
He married Sarah "Sallie" Shelton, daughter of Allen Shelton. On 28 November 1816 in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Marriage performed by William Keele.

1820 Census, Giles County, Tennessee. Enumerated next to Benjamin Brookshire, as Manual Brookshire.
1 male between 16 and 26 years of age.
1 female under 10 years of age.
1 female between 16 and 26 years of age.

1830 Census, Giles County, Tennessee.
1 male 5 to 10 years of age.
1 male 30 to 40 years of age.
1 female under 5 years of age.
2 female 5 to 10 years of age.
1 female 10 to 15 years of age.
1 female 30 to 40 years of age.

On 1 December 1839, Mannering was at Nacogdoches, Texas, where he received a 3rd class land grant #479 for 640 acres, witnessed by O.G. Ogleton and G Meredith. He in turn witnessed their land grants. Mannering's younger brother Joseph C. Brookshire, received a 3rd class land grant #478 for 320 acres at the same time.

In 1840 Mannering Brookshire, I believe is on both the census for Houston County, Texas, as M. Brookshire. And in Giles County, Tennessee. Though I believe that their was an error in the transcription for Giles County, Tennessee as there is a male between 30 and 40 years of age, but no male between 40 and 50 years of age.

In 1850 Mannering Brookshire and family are still in Giles County, Tennessee.

On 2 April 1857 Mannering Brookshire received title to a 40 acre homestead, with Certificate #23713.
SE1/4 of the SE1/4, Section 2, Township 1 South, Range 6 West. Located in Limestone County, Alabama.

I would place Mannering Brookshire's final move to Angelina County, Texas. Between the date that he received title to the homestead in Limestone County, Alabama. And 28 September 1858, when my GGGGreat Grandfather James B. Nicholas, posted a letter from Goldsboro, Limestone County, Alabama. To his eldest daughter Eleanor E. Brookshire 'nee Nicholas, wife of Josiah Brookshire, at that time living in Phelps County, Missouri.
In this letter he tells Eleanor, that Mannering Brookshire, and Thomas Nicholas have moved to Texas.
Thomas Nicholas eldest son of James B. Nicholas married Minerva Brookshire, eldest child of Mannering Brookshire, in 1841, at Giles County, Tennessee.

Mannering Brookshire, passed away in 1888, at the home of his son, Jesse Wright Brookshire. and was buried in the cemetery behind Old Mt. Zion Church, Moffitt, Angelina County, Texas
