A native of Sampson County, he was the retired owner of Clarence T. Herring Screen and Weatherstrip Company and a member of West Market Street United Methodist Church, Fellowship Sunday School class.
Surviving are wife, Alice Nell Duncan Herring; daughter, Miss Elizabeth C. Herring of Greensboro; sisters, Mrs. Mary Herring Duncan of Greensboro, Mrs. Dorothy Herring Shive of Monroe.
The family will be at the residence of daughter, Miss Elizabeth C. Herring, 617 Scott Ave. and sister, Mrs. Mary Duncan, 618 Scott Ave.
