Channing Newton Williams, 74, died Nov. 25, 2009 at home of Alzheimer's, surrounded by loved ones. He lived a wonderful life, fought hard in the end and is now resting peacefully.

Channing, known to many as Captain, was born March 2, 1935, in San Marcos to Jack and Mina Williams. He graduated from SMHS and proceeded to attend and graduate from TX A and M in 1957. While attending A and M he played basketball and served in the Corps. Later he served in the US Army.

For many years Channing lived in Houston and worked for Stewart and Stevenson. Later he transferred to San Antonio and made New Braunfels his home. He retired from S and S in 1995. While working at S and S he made many lifelong, cherished friends. He made a significant impact on many of his coworkers and business associates.

Captain was an avid outdoorsman, and he loved his animals as deeply as he loved his "people." Channing's heart was big and strong as were his hugs, and he was generous with both. He was a blessing to all who knew him. He was well loved and will be sorely missed by many.

Channing is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years June Williams, brother Jack Williams; his children and their families, sister, Charlotte Nelson; her children and their families, his adopted son, Salvador Hernandez-Williams and wife, Luli and their children, Adriana and Regina Hernandez, stepson, Les Ezell and wife, Anna and their children, Shanna Hill and Glenn McNair, stepson, Wack Ezell and his children, Jessica, Jacob, and Avery Ezell, stepson, Lee Ezell and wife, Jamie and children, Jarrett Ezell and his wife, Kortni, and Hunter Ezell, and stepdaughter, Lesa Ezell and her children, Kandice, Keslie, and Kaylea Box and numerous cherished friends.

Channing is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Peggy, his daughter, Kendall, his son, Chan, Jr.
