Roland served as a Private First Class, 84th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Rockingham County, New Hampshire prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on January 20, 1943 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

Roland was "Killed In Action" in Belgium during the war and was awarded the Purple Heart. Service # 31266068
