Lu was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Christopher, Ill., to James R. and Minnie (Nelson) Harris. She married Donald "Red" Cross on July 3, 1946, and together they shared more than 57 years of marriage until his death on Nov. 29, 2003.
They lived throughout Illinois and Missouri, before retiring in Kimberling City, Mo. She lived the last eight years of her life near her family in Chico, Calif.
Lu loved to smile and laugh. She loved her family and was a loving, passionate mother, aunt and friend.
She had a strong faith in God as her Lord and Savior. She was active in the community, First Baptist Church of Kimberling City, Mo., Stonecroft Ministries, the Kimberling Area Library Association and several reading and quilting groups. Earlier in her life, she was a sunday school teacher, PTA president, cub scout den mother and girl scout Leader. And of course, she was the unrelenting cheerleader and fan at Red's football games — come rain, sleet or snow!
Survivors include three children and their families: Timothy Cross, Jamie McGinnis, Reid Cross, Barbara Cross, Holly Cross and Randy Twedt; and grandchildren Dylan Castle and Sienna Cross.
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald "Red" Cross; brothers Roy, Albert, Earl, James, Sampson and Nelson Harris; and sisters Marjorie Williams, Agnes Calliss and Mabel Harris.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, at Stumpff Funeral Home-South in Kimberling City, Mo., and burial following the service at Pinecrest Cemetery.
We were honored and blessed to have a beautiful wife, mother, aunt and friend in our lives. Her smile and laughter continues to live on in our hearts.
Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, can be sent to First Baptist Church, 2 Lakeshore Drive, Kimberling City, MO 65686. Or Butte Home Health and Hospice, 10 Constitution Drive, Chico, CA 95973.
