In 1850, Christian Ness resided in Nettle Creek, Grundy County, Illinois, with his mother, brothers and sisters. The family moved to Story County, Iowa, and farmed in Lafayette Township.

Christian Ness is the brother of Lars Ness, also buried in the Roland Cemetery.
