Sandra Jean James, 66, a longtime Port Byron resident, passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at Walker Nursing Home in Virginia.

She was born March 1, 1947, the daughter of Jacob and Inez Vegter VanOosten. She married Dennis "Frank" James on Jan. 17, 1970, and he preceded her in death on June 13, 2012.

She is survived by three sons, Dave (Laura Golab) James of Jacksonville, Dan (Laura) James of Rock Island, and Derek (Dana) James of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren, Anna, Noah, Sarah and Jacob James and Ryan Golab, Devin and Carson James, and Addyson and Macee James; one brother, Duane (Beverly) VanOosten of Rock Falls; and one sister, Beth (Kenny) Eissens of Thomson.

Mrs. James was a 1965 graduate of Erie Township High School and a member of Grace Bible Fellowship in Moline. She enjoyed having coffee with her friends. Sandra especially loved attending her sons' activities, and more recently spending time with her grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Grace Bible Fellowship in Moline. Visitation will be held 1-2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at a later date at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Grace Bible Fellowship. Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of arrangements.
