Gwendolyn Carol Sanders, 93 of Oakland, MD, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 5, 2010, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home.
Born February 20, 1917 in Preston County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Victor E. and Mary (Frye) Hauger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Nelson Sanders, April 4, 1987; her son, Robert Nelson Sanders; and grandson, Steven Nelson Sanders; six brothers, Asa, Victor (June), Harland, Leo, Everett (Bud), and Ercil; and two sisters, Elsie and Loye. Gwen was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Oakland. Gwen was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed socializing, with friends at the Mary Browning Senior Center and traveling with her children.
Gwen is survived by three sons, Dennis L. Sanders and wife Linda, Donald E. Sanders and wife Cathy, and Fred D. Sanders and wife Lois, all of Oakland, MD; daughter-in-law, Charlaine Sanders of King of Prussia, PA; ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N. Second St., Oakland, MD on Sunday, August 8, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jennifer Sanders Kreighbaum, granddaughter, officiating. Interment will follow at Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
