He was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Pekin to Orval and Edna Herbig Carey Sr. He married Irene Clayton in October 1947.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan J. (John) Long; granddaughters, Natalie S. (Travis) Wilson and Melanie S. (Joe) DiGiacomo; great-grandchildren, Tommy and Elle Wilson and Jax DiGiacomo; sister, Alice Joyce Wamsley; former wife, Irene Carey; special friend, Shirley Lauer; special sisters-in-law, Ruthie Starcevich and Mary Solls and numerous nieces and nephews.
Orval served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during WWII. He served in the Philippines, Australia and New Guinea. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for Best, Val Jobst and O. Frank Heinz construction companies. He was an avid Cubs fan; he never got to see them win the World Series.
His family would like to thank the staff at Methodist, 5 Crescent, 7 Hamilton, Palliative Care, the men and women in valet services and Chaplain Anna for all of their wonderful care.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial Mass will be held Monday, April 22, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights.
The family request no flowers.

The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
