Mary E. Archibald, 95, of Torrington, died at the Goshen County Memorial Nursing Home on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1982. She was born in Phillips County, Kan., on May 8, 1887, the daughter of George and Sarah (Mathers) Roberts.

As a teenager she moved with her family to Arkansas, where they resided until the death of her father, when they returned to Kansas. She married George W. Archibald in Alma, Neb., on Dec. 22. 1905. They farmed in Nebraska until his retuirement when they moved to Torrinton in 1942. She was a cook at the Lincoln Elementary School in Torrington for about six years.

She was affiliated with the Methodist Church and was a Gold Star Mother.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lora (Paul) Gardner of Torrington, Mrs. Blanche (Ray) Davis of Hemmet, Calif., Mrs. Goldie (Gordon) Lamb of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son who died in Belfium during World War II; one daughter, two brothers, and two sisters.

Services will be held Friday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Colyer Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Sewell officiating. Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Methodist Church.
