Sadness is always caused in a community when one of its members is suddenly taken away by death. Sometimes only a few feel it and sometimes the whole neighborhood is touched, as it is at present by the sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Jane B. Jones. Only a few minutes before her death she was talking over the phone to one of her friends and seemed to be in the best of health and spirits, stopping to speak to her son who was just leaving the room, and when he returned in about ten minutes he found her lifeless form crouched beside her bed with the empty camphor bottle near her bed.

Mrs. Jones was the youngest daughter of Samuel and Mary Jane Wiere Henderson, and was born August 12, 1849 in Venango township and died April 10, 1912 in the home where she (be)came a bride, having spent her entire life in this community. She was married to F.B. Jones, February 5, 1869, who preceded her to the great beyond March 24, 1899.

She was the mother of three children, Nellie (Mrs. George Emer) (sic Emery) who died very suddenly in November 1907; Adda J., who died in infancy and Lee the only one remaining, who has the heartfelt sympathy of all in this great loss. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. David Martz, of Wattsburg, and one brother, David Henderson of North East.

Mrs. Jones was a woman of large heart and deep sympathy. She had a quiet even temperament and never gave way to hasty words or bitterness of spirit. Her home was royal in its hospitality and she was at home with the young as well as the old. Her unselfish nature made her considerate of the interests of others and her genial spirit made for her a large circle of loyal friends.

Her funeral was held at Greenfield M.E. church on Saturday, April 12 at 1:30 o’clock. It was conducted by Rev. Croxall and was largely attended.

Mrs. Jones was a charter member of Eureka Grange, No. 1324, and that order attended her funeral in a body. The floral offerings were beautiful and showed the high esteem in which she was held. Many followed the remains to their last resting place in Lowville Cemetery.

May the sudden death of sister Jones remind us therefore be ye also ready for in such an hour as ye think not the son of man commeth.
