Myrtle Lena Carr Burkes, 84, of Ozark died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008, in Ozark.

She was born Dec. 3, 1923, in Grove, Okla., to Perry and Grace Hepler Carr. A retired teacher, she had lived in the local area since 1968 and was a Southern Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey M. Burkes, in 1999, and baby daughter, Gloria Jewel Burkes in 1954.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Burkes Albrecht of Altus and Melanie Bowles of Ozark; two sons, James Burkes of Anchorage, Alaska, and John Burkes of Ozark; a sister, Marie Gwilliams of Temple, Texas; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.


Memorial services were at 7 p.m. Saturday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel, Ozark.

Graveside services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Goldthwaite, Texas, under the direction of Stacy-Wilkes Funeral Home.
