John Charles Riley was the son of Charles Turner Riley & Sarah (Senior) Riley. He came to New York from Yorkshire, England with his parents and two brothers. From there, they moved west to Flint, Michigan, where John married Agnes Clugston on January 29th, 1853. While they lived in Flint, John worked as a tailor. They had 3 sons together, Frank, Charles, and John. They later moved to Caro, Michigan, where they had their last son, William. John ran a hardware store there, and also operated a brick yard that made bricks for the Court House. In 1902, at the age of 73, he was running a tailoring business on State Street in Caro. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He passed away from kidney disease at his home on February 12th, 1916 at 11 in the morning. His funeral was held three days later.
