Mr. Alton Maynard Griffin, 86, died Oct. 30, 2002, at Spring-wood Care Center. He had been in declining health for the past 13 years. Mr. Griffin was born June 16, 1916, in Rocky Mount to Henry and Minnie Allen Griffin. He had been a member of Northwest Baptist Church for 54 years. In addition, he served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Pauline Griffin of the home; a brother, Jack Griffin of South Boston, Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews, who were very special in his life. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Hay-worth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev. Randy McKinney and Dr. James Doss officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
