BAR HARBOR – Mike Johnston, 74, passed away Jan. 21, 2005, at MDI Hospital with his loving wife, Carol and sister, Nancy by his side. He was born Feb. 25, 1930, in Bar Harbor, the son of Earle and Beatrice Engman Johnston. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Carol; his sister, Nancy and her husband, Peter Golding, of Dedham and his sister-in-law, Alma Grindle of Pine Grove, Calif. "Uncle Mike" will be sadly missed by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Michael in 1988. He and his wife, Carol operated Johnston Gardens in Bar Harbor for 25 years. After retirement they vacationed in Florida, but Mike always returned to care for the gardens of two special customers and to plant his vegetable garden to be shared with his many friends. A service of remembrance will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Jordan-Fernald Bar Harbor Chapel, 48 Eden St., Bar Harbor. A spring burial will be announced. At Mike's request friends may donate in his memory to the Church of Our Father, Hulls Cove 04644.
