Helen Irene Roper
04/17/1926 - 04/15/2009

Helen Irene Roper passed away with family at her bedside on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 15th, just two days shy of her 83rd birthday. A longtime Auburn resident, she passed due to stroke-related complications at Auburn Faith Hospital.
She was born Helen Martinson to a North Dakota farming family in 1926. One of 10 siblings, she learned early that steadfastness, hard work, self sacrifice, and practicality, were needed to raise a strong and healthy family. These character qualities, combined with her quiet faith, defined the woman her family and friends loved.
After completing high school as Class Valedictorian, she completed training as a medical technician. Soon after, she met Ralph Charley Roper -- a bold and charming farmer's son from neighboring Minnesota. The two were married in 1947, and together raised three children: Steven, Elaine, and Harvey.
After Ralph completed two tours of naval service, the two moved to Auburn, for the quality of life to raise a family. Together they opened a small jewelry store. While Ralph manned the counter, Helen quietly mastered the books. Together they built a three-generation family company that remains in Auburn today.
Helen enjoyed her family, her friends at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, her garden, her dogs, the outdoors and long drives with her husband in classic cars. With a twinkle in her eye, she often celebrated her full-blood Norwegian heritage.
She is survived by a large and loving family: her husband Ralph, her son Steven, her daughter Elaine and son-in-law Ernie Brennecke, her son Harvey and daughter-in-law Brenda, her grandson Ryan and his wife Michelle, her grandson Jacob, her granddaughter Roseanne, her grandson Lane, her granddaughter Erin and her husband Marcus Van Kommer, her grandson Erik, and her great granddaughter Taylor Ann. She is also survived by her sister Adelyn Mohagen and her brother Wendell Martinson.
The Funeral service will be held at Lassila's Funeral Chapel at 551 Grass Valley Highway, on Wednesday April 22nd at 1 p.m. followed by committal at the New Auburn Cemetery. A reception will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 1279 High Street. The family requests any memorials be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the American Heart Association .
A viewing will be held prior to services, Tuesday evening, April 21st at Lassila's chapel from 4 to 8p.m.
