John Prestly (sic) Puckett
John Prestley Puckett succumbed at his home near Chunky, Route 1, Friday at 2:15 A.M., August 9, after being ill from infirmities of old age since February.
He was born March 7, 1852, age 88 years, 5 months, and 2 days. He married to Miss Victoria Day, who preceded him in death November 14, 1930. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and had numerous friends in his community because of his good will toward everyone.
Funeral Services were conducted Saturday morning, August 10, at Oakland Church. The Rev. W.H. Rainer officiated. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery.
He is survived by three sons: Richard and Harvey of Chunky; Henry of Stratton; two daughters, Miss Jennie Puckett and Mrs. Estella Gibson (sic); fifteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Pall bearers were friends of the family.
According to Harold Graham, the John P. Puckett family moved from the Chapel Hill Community out by Oakland. The place where they buried their infants was in the Chapel Hill Community.
