Ida Mae Akers Roope was the daughter of William and Susan Moore Akers. Ida and her daughter Eva Mae Roope and Ida's brother Dewey R. Akers all drowned as a result of a boating accident on the Kanawha River near Hugeston, WV. Their outboard motor boat struck moored coal barges and overturned in swift water. Another sister, Lillian Facemyer was pulled from the river and survived. All four lived together at Riverside, WV and had no other survivors.
