Stella Calos Morris, 84, of Richmond passed away peacefully April 17, 2013. She was the beloved wife of John Menelaos Morris for 55 years until his death in 2012.
She is survived by her three children, Mark Morris (Deborah), Anna Sempeles (John), and Angela Panos (Emanuel); four grandchildren, Matthew Morris, Chrysann Panos, Sophia Sempeles and John Panos; two brothers, Stavros Calos (Margaret) and Pete Calos (Mary); two sisters-in-law, Cleo Calos and Shirley Calos; 12 nieces and nephews; and 20 great nieces and nephews.
She was born in Danville, and graduated from Averett College. Throughout her early work life career she was a teacher, helped her husband at the family dry cleaning business and was the secretary of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral. She also worked as executive secretary to the treasurer of Robertshaw Controls Company and was secretary at Reveille United Methodist Church until she retired in 1995 to spend time with her grandchildren and family.
She was always a very active member of Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral where she taught nursery school, served as president of the Greek Ladies Philoptochos Society, sang in the choir, was president of Daughters of Penelope, and chairperson of the Sts. Cosmas and Damianos Board. She took great pride in helping the women of the Cathedral create the beautiful Chrismon Tree and compile the "Cherished Greek Recipes and More" cookbook. Stella's strength and grace will be missed.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday with a 7 p.m. Trisagion service at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Avenue.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Malvern Avenue. Interment will be in Westhampton Memorial Park.
