Colonel Samuel Magruder was the son of Alexander(MacGregor) Magruder and his first wife. Originally, family members noted that he was born in 1654. Research by current family members indicates conflicting information for both Samuel and his wife, Sarah. Each researcher has the option to choose their own information to record.

Samuel received 500 acres of land known as "Good Luck" from his father. The property was originally located in Long Old Fields, Calvert County, Maryland. When the boundary lines changed, it was then located in Prince George's County.

He served as a Vestryman at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Baden in 1692. He was a Civil and Military officer in 1692 and 1705. He was a member of the Maryland Assembly until 1707.

Traditional records note that Samuel married Sarah Beall, daughter of Ninian Beall and Ruth Moore. (According to the linked memorial for Sarah, she was the widow of Francis Watts). Other research notes that he married Sarah Mills.

The birthdate of Samuel Magruder is debatable. However, the location of his birth is not in question. He was born in Calvert County, MD. Prince George's County wasn't formed until 1696. His birth has been recorded as early as 1654 and as late as 1661. According to the Maryland Archives Online, Samuel Magruder is the son of the immigrant, Alexander Magruder who was possibly a prisoner of war, sent to the Americas as an indentured servant in 1652.

"Samuel Magruder, the second son of Alexander and Margaret (Brainthwaite) Magruder was born in 1654. He married Sarah .... and their children were Samuel, Ninian, John, James, William, Alexander, Nathaniel, Elizabeth, Sarah, Verlinda, Mary, and Eleanor. "Samuel Magruder I was vestryman in St. Paul's Church in 1692; was civil and military officer from 1676 to 1705; and was a member of the Assembly from 1704 to 1707. His will was dated November 23, 1710, and in it he left to his son Ninian, who married Elizabeth Brewer, the plantation formerly belonging to his brother, John, also three hundred acres, a part of Alexandria."

There is no documentation for the maiden name of Sarah. Serious researchers have debunked the speculation that she was the daughter of Ninian Beall, because Ninian Beall's will does NOT list any bequests to Sarah Magruder, wife of Col. Magruder, nor to any of their children.

Col. Samuel Magruder patented land called "Good Luck" in Prince George's County, MD. He was Gentleman Justice 1697- 1705 and Capt. of the Militia. His father was the immigrant ancestor, Alexander Magruder who is buried on his plantation, "Anchovie Hills" in Calvert County which is now, Prince George's County, Maryland. Alexander Magruder married at least three times. Wife of Alexander and mother of Samuel Magruder is undocumented.
