Vernon “Grant” Seifert He and his twin sister were born on January 5, 1923, in Harrison NE to Thomas and Gertrude Seifert. He had two other sisters, Marie Dunlap, and Gertie West, and two brothers Bud Seifert and Lloyd Seifert. He was raised in and around Harrison. He attended Sioux County High School, and played on the basketball team. After high school he was in the Civilian Conservation Corp. He attended welding school in Kearney, NE. He moved to Bremerton, WA and worked in the ship yards, and made some life long friends. July 6, 1943 he was inducted into the Army, he served in the Pacific. After 2 ½ years he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. After his discharge in January 1946, he met his future bride, Grace Faubion, at a local dance. They were married May 22, 1946, and remained married till her death Dec.22, 1999, a total of 53 1/2 years. To this union there were 6 children born, Ronald, Russell, Beth (Seifert) Dawson, Randal, Rodney, and Rick. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Lincoln, NE, then to Union NE. He ran the bulk plant for Standard Oil. Due to a family issue Grant and Grace moved back to Harrison for a couple years. They moved to California for a couple of years before moving back to Harrison to help out his parents. They bought a house in Harrison and he bought the Standard station and ran that for several years. After selling the station, he worked for the State of Nebraska, and also built houses while working for Herron Brothers. While working at the Frontier Station in Harrison, he was offered a job with the Frontier Oil Company and moved his family to Kimball, NE for three years. From there he moved to Aurora, Co for 1 year, transferred to Montrose for a year and then back to Aurora, for 10 years during which Frontier Oil became Husky Oil. He then transferred to Billings Mt, for 10 years where he retired. As the younger three children graduated in Billings and one by one migrated back to Colorado, Grant and Grace moved back to Aurora to be close to all six children and their growing families. Grant was not one to take to retirement well, so he started going to work daily with his son-in-law at his installation company and became a valued employee, respected friend, and formed a great bond with Terry. They made it a point to incorporate weekly golf games, and on one such day, Grant hit a hole in one, he received recognition from the City of Aurora and had a write up in the paper. What a proud and happy day that was for him. Grant had a great love of GOD, a strong sense of family, and a great work ethic. He had a wonderful voice and loved to sing. He sang at many events whenever asked. He loved all kinds of music and had a great collection, ranging from classical to all other genre. He liked bowling and golf as hobbies and in younger years enjoyed hunting and fishing. Grant was truly loved by family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all.
